First Annual Dinner for Bais Tefila
This past Sunday evening, Bais Tefila of Inwood held their first annual dinner, with over 150 people in attendance. The theme was "A Year of Thanks", and focused on the many people that were instrumental in the establishment of the Synagogue.
Mr. Pinny Ackerman, the Shul's indefatigable President opened the evening thanking the Katz and Rubenstein families for their extraordinary generosity in giving the synagogue of their own personal office space to use. They were each presented with a plaque expressing the Synagogue's appreciation.
Mr. Ackerman then went on to present the evening's honorees with their awards. Two of the founding members were singled out for their devotion to the community and for their constant desire to do whatever they can to benefit the Synagogue. Mr. and Mrs. Baruch White, and Rabbi and Mrs. Reuven Levine were then presented with a beautiful gift expressing the Synagogue’s appreciation and they were each asked to say a few words.
The Rabbi, Pinchus Weinberger then got up to speak and began with a
surprise presentation as a token of Thanks to Mr. Ackerman as president, Mr. Leon Lantsman as treasurer and Mr. Simcha Stoll, describing them as the three pillars on which the Synagogue stands.

Inwood 5K!!!!
The Inwood 5K Run was started in 1993 by Co-Directors Pete Sobol and Mike DeRosa. Since then the event has been held 17 times and has profited close to $80,000. Proceeds from the race are awarded each year to local high school seniors for their continuing educational needs. Many local merchants and organizations sponsor the event with gifts or monetary donations. Our sponsor chairman, Frank Sarro, has worked tirelessly to secure these sponsors. In 2008, St. Johns' Episcopal Hospital became our Finish Line Sponsor, which now allows us the luxury of using the latest state of the art timing system for our race results. Capital One Bank has also served as our Trophy Sponsor, awarding 90 trophies to all of our different age group winners, male and female. Race day employs the volunteer services of 75-100 area citizens who belong to one or more of the 12 organizations that form our Race Committee. This committee and the volunteers they provide, are crucial to the logistical and security needs of holding an event of this magnitude. For more information of the Inwood 5K Run, visit our website at www.inwood5k.com.

INWOOD'S OWN TO BE COMMISSIONED!
SAVE THE DATE AND FOLLOW THIS STORY!!!!
On June 24th Inwood's Own Daniel Vacchio will have his Commissioning Ceremony where he will be sworn into the United States Marine Corps as 2nd Lieutenant. After sacrificing two summers, and forfeiting his time on the beaches in Atlantic Beach, Daniel chose rather to spend them in muddy swamps, bug infested forest-like trees and barracks to undergo what was grueling but self rewarding discipline and leadership training. His time at the Officer Candidate School in Quantico, VA. has taught him what no books can teach. Even with his bachelor degree from John Jay College and job offers on the table Daniel feels his training, knowledge and more importantly his pride temporarily outweigh and he has chosen to serve his country. Follow this story right here on insideinwood.com as we will have first hand photos of Daniel's ceremony and updates on this remarakable young man that we should all be proud to say is one of Inwood's Own!
"DUMP" Meeting Update!
On June 7th a follow-up meeting was held regarding resident complaints about New York Recycling & Materials. At this meeting, Jim Darcy from the Town of Hempstead along with a Code enforcement officer was there as well as two representatives from the DEC. Owners of NY Recycling, John & Chris Pizzirusso were also in attendance to hear the neighbors concerns as well as express how they have tried hard to "be good neighbors" and fix many of the problems left behind by the previous owner. They continued to stress to the corwd off approximately 50 that they ONLY took over February 14th and named MANY upgrades that they have done in that short period of time and will continue to do so. They made themselves available this evening to open the communication, hear the concerns and ended the meeting by handing out business cards encouraging the community to keep in contact with them and they will do their best to address their concerns. Although at times frustrations may have been high by the end of the meeting the tone was calm and we believe that this situation is in good place. Thanks to the residents for being proactive and voicing your concerns and thank you Pizzirusso brothers for sitting in that "hot seat" and being open to this meeting.
