Wellness & Wholeness at Lawrence High School

Father Francis Pizzarelli, brother of Athletic Director Patrick Pizzarelli, spoke to the entire Lawrence High School student body. The title of his talk was, “The Poverty of Caring: A Call to Wellness and Wholeness”. He spoke on the many issues that today’s young people have to deal with. He told our students a few real life experiences that he has had with teenage suicide and drinking and driving. He empowered all of our students to “make a difference” and not be afraid to reach out and help one another. He ended his presentation by asking all the students to stand and join hands with their neighbors as a sign of unity and oneness that we want our school to be. It was a very powerful experience.

COMMUNITY MEETING - RE: NY RECYCLING

In an emotionally charged meeting at the Five Towns community Center residents from Inwood came out to vent their frustrations towards NY Recyling & Materials; a concrete "crushing" plant located at the end of Roger Ave. Some resident complaints were late working hours, noise "pollution", sewage run-off into Jamaica Bay, dust blowing due to no sprinkler usage. Since no Town officials were able to attend the meeting and no owners of the company were in attendance the "outlash" and frustrations were vented toward the representatives of the DEC who were in attendance. The DEC assured the community they would do everything in their power to help enforce the rules set forth on the permit they issued. Another meeting is being planned where Town Officials are expected to attend and hopes that owners of the facility too will attend so together all can agree on how to be "good neighbors".

ANTI-BULLYING AT LHS

On Thursday morning, in the Lawrence High School Auditorium Cablevision partnering with the Nassau County’s District Attorney’s Office held a seminar for the students on Cyber Bullying. The seminar highlighted various forms of cyber-bullying, how to address it and laws related to it. The goal was to hopefully eradicate this 21st Century form of bullying. Kathleen Rice Nassau County’s DA along with staff explained the laws relating to and the consequences resulting from cyber-bullying. Students asked questions and shared experiences. We congratulate all involved as this even.
