CHILDREN IN NEED - FUNDRAISER SET-UP!!

It is with great sadness that we report the loss of a neighbor Yasmin Rivera. Yasmin was a young mother of two, Kimberly 13 years old and Eric 4 years old. She was raising these children as a single parent. At the time of her death she was in the final days of her pregnancy. Her newborn baby Samantha was miraculously saved and will be taken care of by her father. Her neighbor Marta Reyes is currently seeking custody of Kimberly and Eric. Yasmin was known to attend the Spanish Mass at Our Lady of Good Council every Sunday. The Hispanic community organized a fundraiser last Sunday to financially assist the children during this difficult time. Marta Reyes the older children’s caretaker is searching for a larger apartment to accommodate her new expanded family. If you know of any living accommodations available or would like to make a financial contribution please contact Pete Sobol @ 516-371-3882. All checks should be made payable to "I’ll Stand By You” a nonprofit set up to help our friends in need.

LAWRENCE SCHOOL DISTRICT PLAN - BEST EDUCATION FOR OUR CHILDREN!!

Last Thuraday night at #2 School Lawrence School Superintendent Gary Schall rolled out the new school district's plan to address the performance and progress of all students in the Lawrence School District. There was a new openness and positive tone to the meeting. Mr Schall, Pat Pizzarelli and Ann Peterson stressed the importance of each child's educational advancement and the need for the community and the district to work together for our children. Board President, Asher Mansorf and David Sussman also spoke to the educational importance and the need to put the education and the future of our children before any other issues that face the district.
We applaud and acknowledge this approach and encourage everyone to join their effort to ensure our children get the best education possible.
